New and Emerging Specs & Standards (May 2025)
ISO 16687:2025 – Quality - Statistics and performance evaluation – Impact assessment for museums
Technical Committee: ISO/TC 46/SC 8
“This document defines methods for measuring and assessing the impact of museums on individuals and on society. The methods described can be used for identifying areas of influence of museums and their services, and for reporting such influence to stakeholders and the general public. This document does not intend to exclude the use of further instruments for assessing the impact of museums. This document does not deal with quality indicators for museums (see ISO 21246). Not all methods described can apply to all museums at any time. Limitations on the applicability of individual methods are specified in the descriptions of the methods in this document.”
ISO/IEC 14496-32:2025 – Information technology — Coding of audio-visual objects Part 32: File format reference software and conformance
Technical Committee: ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29
“This document describes the reference software and conformance suite for the file format documents in multiple standards. Since these standards share a lot of technology, their reference software and conformance program are being handled together. These standards are: ISO/IEC 14496-12, ISO/IEC 14496-14, ISO/IEC 14496-15, ISO/IEC 14496-30 and ISO/IEC 23008-12. The purpose of the conformance suite is to cover the set of valid features that can be exercised in the file format. Media conformance is not covered, though of course to exercise the file format features, media will be stored.”
ISO 19116:2025 – Geographic information — Positioning services
Technical Committee: ISO/TC 211
“This document specifies the data structure and content of an interface that permits communication between position-providing device(s) and position-using device(s) enabling the position-using device(s) to obtain and unambiguously interpret position information and determine, based on a measure of the degree of reliability, whether the resulting position information meets the requirements of the intended use. A standardized interface for positioning allows the integration of reliable position information obtained from non-specific positioning technologies and is useful in various location-focused information applications, such as surveying, navigation, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and location-based services (LBS).”
Proposal to endorse Vision for W3C as a W3C Statement [W3C]
“The W3C Advisory Board, in cooperation with the Vision Task Force, has updated the Group Note of Vision for W3C and now proposes advancing it to a W3C Statement. The Vision for W3C articulates the values that underpin W3C’s mission, what W3C is, what it does and why that matters, and the principles by which it operates and makes decisions.”
