Suzy Szasz Palmer

Director of Research & Information Services

Suzy Szasz Palmer joined the Library of Virginia in June 2007 as Director of Research & Information Services. Prior to this she was Professor/Associate Dean for Collections, Preservation & Digital Initiatives at the University of Louisville Libraries, where she also served on the Assessment Committee. She spent the majority of her library career (1979-2002) at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY), where she held various positions in reference and instruction, collection development, and special collections. She has taught "Collection Development" for the University of Kentucky (UK) School of Information Science and been a guest lecturer at the Syracuse University School of Information Studies and in online courses through UK and the University of North Texas School of Library and Information Sciences. She has held the position of Editor-in-Chief, Microform & Imaging Review (formerly Microform Review), and currently serves on the Board of Editors. She has been a consultant on new products (print and electronic) for Gale, Readex and ProQuest. She served for many years as a reviewer for Library Journal, LJ Disc & Database Reviews, and Microform Review/Microform & Imaging Review. During her 30-year career she has given numerous presentations at regional, national, and international conferences. Suzy received her A.B., summa cum laude, in political philosophy and her M.L.S. from Syracuse University; she is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Prior to becoming an academic librarian, she did graduate work in government and foreign affairs at the University of Virginia.
