Dr. Leonard Jack, Jr. is a magna cum laude graduate of Virginia State University with a degree in Health Education, and holds a master’s and PhD in Behavioral Sciences from The Pennsylvania State University. Currently, he is a distinguished research consultant at the CDC and editor in chief of Preventing Chronic Disease (PCD) since October 2016. Previously, he directed the CDC’s Division of Community Health and held multiple academic and leadership roles at Xavier University of Louisiana and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Jack is an adjunct full professor at Morehouse School of Medicine. His research expertise includes sociocultural aspects of disease management, minority health, and chronic disease management. He has been honored with SOPHE’s Distinguished Fellow Award, Penn State’s Alumni Recognition Award, and CDC’s Jeffrey P. Koplan Award. In 2023, he became president-elect of SOPHE and received the Council of Science Editors’ Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Jack has also mentored numerous students and professionals across various fields.
