Joelle Pitts is the Associate Dean for Administration, Planning, and Assessment at Carnegie Mellon University Libraries. In that role she is responsible for library finances, access services, technical services including cataloging and acquisitions, operations, human resources, assessment, and reporting. Previously she served as the head of the Content Development and Academic Services departments of the Kansas State University Libraries. Joelle holds masters degrees in library science and business administration. She is a founder and board member of the award-winning New Literacies Alliance, an inter-institutional information literacy consortium dedicated to creating institutional, technological, and vendor-agnostic online lessons. Integrating her instructional design, collections, and management experience, Joelle’s research areas include: distance education and e-learning theory, design, and assessment; inter-institutional collaboration; collection assessment; as well as the intersections of scholarly communication and information literacy. She has published and presented on these topics at the local, national, and international level.
