Caroline Desrosiers is an accessibility advocate, speaker, writer, consultant, and founder of Scribely, a company on a mission to make images and videos accessible to all humans. Before starting Scribely, Caroline worked in digital book publishing for a higher education publisher managing content and metadata distribution to the online retail marketplace. This provided both strategic and hands-on experience in establishing efficient systems and workflows for passing content and information through a network of internal and external systems.
Caroline launched Scribely, a certified woman-owned small business, in January 2020 to help organizations deliver exceptional image descriptions and break down barriers to accessing visual information online. From day one, Scribely has been a company that advocates for and prioritizes accessible content and delightful user experiences above and beyond compliance. In 2021, Caroline joined the IPTC Photo Metadata Working Group and successfully led an initiative to add alt text and extended description metadata properties to the IPTC Photo Metadata Standard.
Caroline continues to advocate for the adoption of the accessibility properties which are now fully-supported by industry-leading Digital Asset Management Systems like Brandfolder and Bynder, as well as computer software companies like Adobe. Caroline also joined the W3C Silver Alt Text Subgroup to collaborate with accessibility professionals and improve the resources and guidance available for WCAG alternative text requirements.
