Beth Richard is Senior Publishing Editor at the Institute of Development Studies, UK, where she has produced IDS' open access journal, books, and other long-form research publications for 12 years. She leads the IDS Accessible Communications Group, is a member of the Strategic Leadership Group – Equalities, Diversity, and Inclusion Sub-Committee, and is passionate about making accessibility standard practice and embedded into the Institute’s day-to-day work. Beth completed a Master’s degree in Publishing Studies at Oxford Brookes University in 2024/25. Her dissertation focused on how small, academic publishers can produce accessible EPUBs using an InDesign workflow, for which she was awarded the Taylor & Francis Prize and the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Award. Her recent study on the use of alternative (alt) text in academic publications was published in the journal LOGOS: ‘Key Issues Affecting the Inclusion of Alt Text in Scholarly PDF Publications’.
