Delta Think Survey Reveals Far-Reaching Impact of Cuts to US Research Funding

August 2025

The consultancy Delta Think recently reported on the results of a survey of over 13,000 researchers working across disciplines and based in 135 countries around the world. The survey, which Delta Think designed in collaboration with professional associations and societies, was designed to assess the impact of threats to research funding in the US on the wider international research community.

“My research progress is now in ‘conservative mode’ in case funding is pulled from us with no notice. We cannot plan further out and have lost our trust in the federal government.” — PI @US Academic Med Ctr More on our results here: www.deltathink.com/delta-thinks... #Funding #Policy #Research

Among the survey's findings is that in the US, uncertainty about the future of funding has led researchers to scale back projects. Outside the US, over half of those surveyed said they would no longer submit articles to US journals. US respondents expressed concern about the long-term impact of cuts to federal funding on their careers, with those not in the US feared a decline in nternational collaboration.
