Congratulations are in order for Alexia Hudson-Ward, who joins Georgetown University as University Librarian and Dean of the Library. Her predecessor in this role, Harriette Hemmasi, has retired.
In addition to her current role as associate director of research, learning, and strategic partnerships at MIT Libraries, Hudson-Ward has held positions at Pennsylvania University and Oberlin College (she was director of libraries at the latter institution, where she was the first person of color in the role). She is recognized for her contributions to the field of African American history and will play a role in Georgetown's ongoing work on Slavery, Memory, and Reconciliation.
Upon the announcement of her appointment, Hudson-Ward stated, “This is ... a great opportunity to lead one of the world’s storied library systems at a time where we’re all undergoing deep interrogation on what the future of higher education and the future of academic libraries could and would mean."
