IOP Publishing has adopted the Contributor Role Taxonomy (CRediT) Standard for all its proprietary journals. In doing so, they join a growing number of publishers and technology providers who have implemented the standard and integrated it into manuscript submission systems.

Daniel Keirs, Head of Journal Strategy and Performance at IOPP, shared why the publisher made the decision to implement CRediT:

“For researchers, it’s increasingly important to demonstrate their involvement in the research process, whether that is designing the methodology, analysing data or communicating discoveries. By making this simpler for researchers to do, we enhance researchers’ experience and make information clearer and easier to access. At the same time, it helps institutions and funders see the full range of contributions, supporting a more holistic approach to research evaluation. This approach aligns with our mission to deliver impact, recognition, and value to the scientific community.”

CRediT is an ANSI/NISO Standard published in 2022. Defining 14 contributor roles, from conceptualization through funding acquisition and writing, the standard helps to increase author visibility and transparency.
