Managing Cybersecurity Risks
Why the Information Community Should Care
May 14, 2025, 11:00 am - 12:00 Noon.

Two recent reports on cybersecurity should raise concern in all information industry professionals.
The first is a concern reflected in the 2025 ACRL Environmental Scan. Quoting from the Verizon 2024 Data Breach Investigations Report, the ACRL document noted that “Education was the industry most frequently targeted for attacks and data breaches in 2024.” Hard on the heels of that sentence followed the statistic that more than 60% of higher education organizations had been hit by ransomware during the same year,
A second item, entitled Full Transparency: 10 Lessons from the Cyberattacks on the British Library, comes from the International Institute for Management Development. Listing ten critical takeaways from that 2023 ransomware experience, the article noted that the takeaways applied to “businesses as well as cultural, not-for-profit, and research institutions”.
On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, NISO will be hosting a webinar directly addressing cybersecurity and the risks facing the information industry. The roundtable discussion is intended to address key challenges and provide practical strategies for mitigating risks in the management, sharing, and preservation in a digital information environment.
Featured participants in this roundtable include: Rick Anderson, University Librarian, Brigham Young University, Amy Pawlowski, Executive Director, OhioLINK; and Tim Lloyd, CEO, Liblynx.
As always, a designated contact at NISO member organizations automatically receives sign-on credentials for regularly scheduled webinar events as a benefit of membership. Non-member participation is equally welcomed; just check the NISO event page for payment specifics.
Let’s raise awareness of the risks associated with cybersecurity as a priority for all in the information community.
