EBSCO Information Services Releases Definitive Full-Text Resource for Petroleum Studies

EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) announces the launch of Petroleum Source, a new full-text resource covering the extraction, refining, transportation and impact of oil, gas and other resources. Petroleum Source supports students and researchers in their exploration of the technological trends and related scientific knowledge surrounding the world of petroleum products and their global impact.

Offering an invaluable collection of sources, Petroleum Source includes more than 200 scientific and technical indexed and abstracted journals, 115 of which have full-text and 236 company profiles. Cape Breton University plans to use the integration features of ORCID with their new institutional Repository, as well as in their new researcher software. They also hope to gain valuable information about researchers at CBU, their work, and their impact.

Portico highlighted in Nature’s Call for Action to Preserve Digital Research

In Act now to stop millions of research papers from disappearing, Nature’s editorial board calls on the global research community to take steps to better preserve the growing number of research papers being produced each year, with a particular focus on at-risk publications.

Citing a study published earlier this year in the Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication that says at least 2 million research articles are not being preserved, the editorial highlights three ways to help address the challenge. It emphasizes the importance of active preservation with services like Portico, highlights the role that institutional repositories can play in maintaining copies of faculty articles, and posits that national legal deposit programs can help to preserve content published in specific countries.

Statement on the Equal Rights Amendment Ratification Process

Archivist of the United States Dr. Colleen Shogan and Deputy Archivist William J. Bosanko released the following statement today on the Equal Rights Amendment and the constitutional responsibilities for administering the ratification process:  

“As Archivist and Deputy Archivist of the United States, it is our responsibility to uphold the integrity of the constitutional amendment process and ensure that changes to the Constitution are carried out in accordance with the law. At this time, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) cannot be certified as part of the Constitution due to established legal, judicial, and procedural decisions.

CAS and PetroChina Shanghai Advanced Materials Research Institute announce a collaboration to accelerate new materials discovery and innovation

CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society specializing in scientific knowledge management, and PetroChina Shanghai Advanced Materials Research Institute Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of the world’s third largest oil company, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), are collaborating for use of the CAS SciFinder Discovery Platform™ to accelerate research and discovery of new chemical materials.

PetroChina Shanghai Advanced Materials Research Institute Co., Ltd. was founded in 2021 to address key technological challenges in advanced chemical materials and drive a transformation of CNPC from a traditional refinery and petrochemical product provider to a more advanced and sustainable material provider. Its research focus includes high-performance engineering materials, high-performance polyolefin and elastomers, special catalysts, advanced membranes, fibers and composites, etc.

Texas State University Libraries Go Live With FOLIO Using EBSCO FOLIO Support

The Texas State University Libraries have successfully transitioned to the FOLIO library services platform (LSP) with support from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO). This migration — completed alongside the adoption of EBSCO’s other SaaS offerings — was finalized in Fall 2024, replacing the university's previous library management system and discovery infrastructure.

Texas State University Libraries provide collaborative study areas, advanced research tools, and a wealth of cultural resources. The Texas State University Libraries will integrate FOLIO with several of EBSCO’s SaaS offerings, such as EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) for intuitive resource discovery, Locate for unified catalog management, and Panorama for centralized library and user data reporting, which has been seamlessly carried over from the previous integrated library system (ILS). Integrating FOLIO's open-source platform with EBSCO's SaaS offerings is designed to streamline access to resources, enhance research efficiency, and reinforce the university's commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and academic excellence.
