Wiley and OA Switchboard partner to make open access data sharing easier

Wiley, one of the world’s largest publishers and a global leader in research and learning, today announced a new partnership with OA Switchboard, a community-driven initiative that facilitates information sharing about open access publications between funders, institutions and publishers.
Wiley will support OA Switchboard’s “reporting made easy” offering by supplying publicly-available metadata for open access articles published in Wiley’s journals. By providing the underlying shared open infrastructure for institutions and funders, OA Switchboard will help simplify registering and reporting on research output, as well as trend analysis about where and how affiliated authors publish their work openly. As an intermediary, OA Switchboard is publisher- and funder-agnostic.
Unicamp and Taylor & Francis Sign the University’s First Transformative Agreement

Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), one of Latin America’s leading institutions, has announced a new partnership with Taylor & Francis to increase the global reach and impact of its research through open access (OA) publishing.
Unicamp’s first transformative agreement is a significant commitment to OA, supporting corresponding authors to publish their articles open access in more than 2,300 Taylor & Francis and Routledge journals, both hybrid and full OA. The agreement’s generous open access article allocation has been designed to enable all corresponding Unicamp authors to choose OA.
Elsevier and SCELC Establish Partnership to Expand Open Access in Elsevier Journals

Elsevier, a global leader in information analytics and scientific publishing, is pleased to announce an innovative partnership with the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC) with a focus on open access. The read and publish transformative agreement, effective from January 2024 for all 37 participating SCELC members, signifies substantial advancement in open scholarship and community engagement while also providing critically important research content to students and researchers.
As a consortium dedicated to serving the unique and varied needs of its libraries, SCELC supports collective action that enables small and midsize libraries to benefit from open publishing agreements that would not be available or manageable individually. Elsevier and SCELC worked together collaboratively to enhance how we both support the SCELC community by adding open access publishing to our ScienceDirect journal package agreement. Hundreds of corresponding authors across one-third of SCELC member institutions now have the option to publish open access articles in more than 2400 hybrid or fully open access Elsevier journals. The agreement is expected to cover open publication charges for more than 400 articles per year. For more details, please see the agreement page.
The American Association of Immunologists Partners with Oxford University Press to Publish Preeminent Immunology Journals

The American Association of Immunologists (AAI) today announced its publishing partnership with Oxford University Press (OUP). OUP will publish the AAI journals, The Journal of Immunology (The JI) and ImmunoHorizons (IH), beginning in 2025.
The Journal of Immunology publishes peer-reviewed manuscripts describing novel findings in all areas of experimental immunology including both basic and clinical studies. ImmunoHorizons is a fully open-access, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing the knowledge of immunology and immunology education.

BMJ collaborates with Vanderbilt University’s Heard Libraries to support open access publishing

Leading global healthcare knowledge provider BMJ has signed a new Read and Publish agreement with the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries at Vanderbilt University. The agreement allows Vanderbilt-affiliated corresponding authors to publish their primary research open access (OA) without incurring article processing charges (APCs).In addition, the agreement grants affiliates full reading access to leading general medicine journal The BMJ and BMJ Case Reports. It also includes more than 30 specialty journals that are part of BMJ’s Premier Collection, including world-renowned titles such as Gut, Thorax, and the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
Vanderbilt is a private university in Nashville, Tennessee, globally renowned for its transformative education and research.
"I’m excited to announce this agreement with BMJ, which will accelerate discoveries in healthcare research at Vanderbilt,” said University Librarian Jon Shaw. “The agreement will enable our authors to access key journals and to collaborate more broadly as they look to impact critical challenges on an international scale.”

Emerald Publishing’s stance on AI tools in content creation and the peer review process

Following the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in 2022 and the subsequent emergence of a multitude of other Large Language Models and AI tools, Emerald released a statement in February 2023 detailing its stance on the question of generative AI tools and authorship.
Specifically, that as those tools cannot take accountability for the work generated and be responsible for that content, they cannot be credited with the authorship of any Emerald publication, and the use of generative AI tools within the development of an Emerald publication must be flagged by the author(s) within the article, case study, or chapter, as well as at submission.

Ohio University names Rob Ross as dean of University Libraries

Ohio University Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Elizabeth Sayrs has named Rob Ross as dean of University Libraries, effective August 1, 2024.
Ross currently serves as the executive director for NC LIVE for the North Carolina State University Libraries. In this position, he serves as the chief administrative officer for the 209-member library cooperative that provides electronic resources, library software, and professional development to all UNC System universities, private colleges, community colleges, and public libraries in North Carolina.
