Open Access to 2021 NISO Plus Content
Information Community News
Six months on from NISO Plus 2021, NISO is opening up the content for everyone to watch, use, share — and even cite!
The 90 videos cover a wide range of important topics for the information community, from accessibility to standards in open research infrastructure, as well as NISO-specific content including an introduction to our organization by Executive Director Todd Carpenter and Associate Executive Director Nettie Lagace.
If you haven’t already done so, we strongly encourage you to check out the videos of the 2021 keynote presentations (which have been openly available since shortly after the conference). As well as the 2021 Miles Conrad Lecture by Heather Joseph, we were also privileged to hear from writer and technology activist Cory Doctorow, Dr Norihiro Hagita (Japan Science & Technology Agency), and Dr Margaret Sraku-Lartey (CSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana).
Expert speakers from around the world include:
- Kyle K Courtney (Harvard University) and Carlo Scollo Lavizzari (STM Association) debating controlled digital lending;
- Simon Cox (CSIRO), Simon Hodson (CODATA), and Lesley Wyborn (Australian National University) discussing vocabularies to enhance discovery and description;
- and Kathryn Funk (NLM/NIH), Joy Owango (AfricArXiv), and Abel Packer (SciELO) on the quality and reliability of preprints.
As well as videos of the presentations themselves, we also invite you to listen to recordings of the discussions that followed each session, which we see as every bit as important. The NISO Plus conference is intended to be a place for both learning and action — moving from sharing views and experiences to identifying concrete opportunities for improvement. This year’s conference has already generated several new work item proposals, which we will be reporting back on at NISO Plus 2022!
All videos are accompanied by a transcript, and can be clipped, shared, and cited as needed.
We are very grateful to Cadmore Media, who provide the repository for our video content, for their generous support.
