Cory Doctorow to Keynote at NISO Plus 2021
The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) today announced that the well-known science fiction author, activist, and journalist, Cory Doctorow, will be a keynote at their next annual NISO Plus conference to be held virtually, February 22-25, 2021.
In addition to being a prolific and highly successful writer of both fiction and non-fiction, Cory is also a special consultant to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (eff.org), a non-profit civil liberties group that defends freedom in technology law, policy, standards and treaties. He holds an honorary doctorate in computer science from the Open University (UK), where he is a Visiting Professor; he is also a MIT Media Lab Research Affiliate and a Visiting Professor of Practice at the University of North Carolina’s School of Library and Information Science. In 2007, he served as the Fulbright Chair at the Annenberg Center for Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California. His many books include, most recently, RADICALIZED and WALKAWAY, science fiction for adults; HOW TO DESTROY SURVEILLANCE CAPITALISM, nonfiction about monopoly and conspiracy; IN REAL LIFE, a graphic novel; and the picture book POESY THE MONSTER SLAYER. His latest book is ATTACK SURFACE, a standalone adult sequel to LITTLE BROTHER.
NISO Plus 2021 is a digital-first, fully virtual global conference taking place across multiple time zones over the course of four days. It aims to capture the spirit of the inaugural NISO Plus, an in-person conference held in Baltimore in February 2020, with a focus on innovation, education, and conversation. More information about the conference is available at niso.plus.
“Through his thoughtful writing, Cory Doctorow has proven adept at envisioning and describing technological worlds and the human impact of those technologies,” noted Todd Carpenter, NISO’s Executive Director. “As both an author and a thought leader about content distribution, it will be fascinating to hear his thoughts on access to information, on technology, and the standards that help to disseminate that content to the world. He will be an amazing headline speaker at our upcoming conference.”
Registration for NISO Plus 2021 will open shortly - please check niso.plus or follow @NISOInfo for updates.
