December 9 Open Teleconference: FASTEN
Flexible API STandard for E-content NISO
The next NISO Open Teleconference will be held Monday, December 9th at 3:00 PM Eastern time. The topic for the December call will be the NISO FASTEN Working Group (long name: "Flexible API STandard for E-content NISO") and its recent draft Recommended Practice.
All NISO Open Teleconferences are open to everyone!
Working Group co-chair Josh Weisman (Ex Libris) will join NISO Associate Executive Director Nettie Lagace to discuss FASTEN and its recent release of a draft document for public comment.
The draft FASTEN Recommended Practice pertains to the modernization of library-vendor technical interoperability using RESTful web service application programming interfaces (APIs) and standard mobile application intent calls. In the interest of streamlining information transfer between vendor and library systems, the scope of the document touches on areas such as login/authentication, account information, availability, checkout, streaming options, and more. The objective of FASTEN is to support the ability of libraries to offer their digital content in one easy-to-use, integrated, and comprehensive platform that can be accessed and operated by the devices most commonly used by library patrons.
