This session will explore the evolving landscape of scholarly communication, review the implications of recent policy shifts, and consider what lies ahead for our industry.

Exploring the Transformative Role of AI in the Research Cycle – Webinar Series

NISO is pleased to announce the AI & the Research Cycle series, a four-part exploration of how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping the research landscape. From discovery to dissemination, AI’s influence on scholarly communication is undeniable, raising critical questions and unlocking exciting opportunities.

The series kicks off on February 19, 2025, with Phase I: Environmental Scan & Discovery, focusing on how AI tools are revolutionizing how researchers identify and engage with new information. This session will explore the evolving landscape of AI-powered literature reviews, data mining, and enhanced discovery processes.

On June 11, 2025, Phase II: Data Collection & Analysis will dive into AI’s role in gathering, interpreting, and managing research data. This session will address how AI enhances efficiency and accuracy in data collection, while also exploring ethical considerations and transparency.

Phase III: Writing, Peer Review & Publishing, taking place on September 10, 2025, will examine AI’s growing involvement in manuscript preparation, automating editorial processes, and even streamlining peer review. Attendees will gain insights into how AI is reshaping scholarly publishing and the potential risks and rewards that come with it.

The series concludes on November 12, 2025, with Phase IV: Licensing, Copyright & Research Impact. This session will focus on how AI intersects with intellectual property, raising key questions around licensing, copyright, and long-term research influence.

The series is curated by a distinguished planning committee, including Emily Singley (Elsevier), Carolina Tanigushi (SciELO), and Preeti Gokal Kochar (U.S. National Library of Medicine).
