Kicking Off NISO's 2025 Educational Programming
Looking Ahead!
As we close out 2024 and step into the new year, the Education Program is excited to introduce two dynamic offerings designed to engage, inform, and empower professionals across the scholarly communications community. Save the dates for the January webinar, "State of the Community," happening Wednesday, January 15, and the Spring Training Series, "Accessibility Essentials with Lettie Conrad," launching in April.
The State of the Community webinar promises a timely and thought-provoking discussion on the significant transformations our community has experienced in recent years. From addressing the impacts of the 2024 U.S. presidential election to navigating shifts in policies and practices, this session will explore the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of scholarly communication. Featuring an expert panel of industry leaders—Trevor Dawes (University of Delaware), Celeste Feather (Lyrasis), Qiana Johnson (Dartmouth University), Andrew Joseph (Wits University Press), Sara Rouhi (AIP Publishing), and Caroline Sutton (STM)—the webinar will provide insights into the evolving landscape and highlight what lies ahead for our industry.
In April, the 8-week Spring Training Series, Accessibility Essentials, kicks off with guidance from industry expert Lettie Conrad (San Jose State University). This immersive seminar is tailored to equip scholarly communications and publishing professionals with the tools and knowledge needed for accessibility compliance. Participants will explore key topics such as the fundamentals of inclusive publishing, the repercussions of non-compliance, human-centered design principles, and strategies for embedding accessibility into organizational practices. The series will also address practical solutions for producing accessible formats like PDFs and EPUBs, retrofitting backlist titles, and conducting accessibility audits. Designed to foster an inclusive publishing ecosystem, this program delivers actionable guidance and real-world strategies. The series takes place from Thursday, April 3 - Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 11:00 am - 12:30pm weekly.
These programs underscore the Education Program’s dedication to addressing critical issues while fostering growth and innovation in the scholarly communications field. Whether reflecting on the past year’s pivotal events or preparing for a future rooted in inclusivity and accessibility, these offerings promise valuable insights and practical takeaways for all participants.
