Access Innovations, Inc., provider of Data Harmony software solutions, is proud to announce that the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) has selected the company to create a taxonomy and index their content resources. This project will encompass posts on The Scholarly Kitchen, webinars, conference content, and other articles from the SSP website.

Working with SSP, Access Innovations will create a taxonomy or thesaurus that accurately reflects SSP’s content and apply conceptual or semantic metadata to the SSP back file of content. The forward-flow application of conceptual metadata will minimize the time required by SSP staff and volunteers. Tagging the content at the article and sub-article level will make it easier to surface content more precisely relevant to the SSP community and increase the findability of content though conceptual metadata.

“SSP publishes a significant amount of content annually when you consider posts in The Scholarly Kitchen as well as the recorded material produced at our annual meeting, seminars, webinars and training programs,” says Melanie Dolechek, Executive Director at SSP. “We are eager to leverage the knowledge and technology offered by Access Innovations to make our content more discoverable by the community. The implementation of the taxonomy will make it easier for users to quickly locate content that aligns with their interests or needs, leading to an enhanced user experience. Once the taxonomy is in place, we’ll explore opportunities to package and recommend content for users based on their interests.”

“This is a landmark project for SSP and we look forward to working with the Taxonomy Task Force,” comments Heather Kotula, President and CEO of Access Innovations. “SSP content covers the imaginative and cutting edge of publishing, as well as keeping the scholarly publishing community current on industry issues. They will find great benefit from tagging the content with a proper taxonomy. We expect that search results, in terms of both retrieval and recall, will be markedly improved and that SSP members and non-members alike will find the improvements provide new insights to aid in their daily needs.”
