This comprehensive course will introduce you to the fundamental concepts and tools of text and data mining. By completing this course, you will fortify your knowledge and skill set with an understanding of data, data structures, and complex data types. You will come away with an understanding of the primary types of machine learning and how they are applied. Plus, you will be introduced to important Python applications that are directly relevant to text and data mining in a library environment, as well as gain confidence in the essential methods for performing text and data mining tasks.
Leading this series is Dr. Mattingly, a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Smithsonian Institution’s Data Science Lab, specializing in applying machine learning and natural language processing to archival and historical documents. Dr. Mattingling brings his wealth of experience working across diverse fields, including history, geography, and archival research, to share his unique understanding and perspective to this increasingly important skill.
