The Association of American Publishers announced today that Jonathan M. Walker has been named Vice President, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. He is based in Washington, DC and reports directly to President and CEO Maria A. Pallante. This [is] a new position for the organization.
“Jonathan brings a long list of leadership accomplishments to the AAP on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as higher education,” Maria Pallante commented. “I am thrilled to welcome him to our team, and equally thrilled that AAP is positioned to both support and elevate the important DEI work taking place in the global publishing industry.”

Hip-hop community engagement project, autism center win national awards

Elsevier Joins The Open Group OSDU™ Forum to Accelerate Data Standardization and Digital Transformation in the Energy Industry

Paolo Manghi, CTO of OpenAIRE, is co-leading an international team led by University of North Texas that has been awarded a $1.2 million grant from the Mellon Foundation to develop core scholarly infrastructure for the community governed sharing of quality, interoperable, open-access book usage data.
Open access (OA) materials are free to read online and are distributed without licensing restrictions. While standards such as the COUNTER Code of Practice support OA book usage reporting, opportunities exist to streamline OA usage data sharing, governance, and curation across public and private sector partners worldwide.

Libraries’ Hemingway research potential grows through new Bruce Collection

Penn State University Libraries has expanded its robust scholarly research potential of one of America’s foremost 20th-century writers through the acquisition of the Toby and Betty Bruce Collection of Ernest Hemingway. Now housed in the University Libraries’ Eberly Family Special Collections Library, the collection includes unpublished writing, manuscripts, handwritten letters and notes, more than 1,000 photos, other documents and memorabilia and provides new insight into the author’s writing process and his personal life from childhood onward.
“The acquisition of this archive of some of Hemingway’s unpublished stories, manuscript drafts and correspondence will provide a wealth of new material for studying a pre-eminent writer,” said Faye A. Chadwell, dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications. “The Toby and Betty Bruce Collection of Ernest Hemingway is a significant addition to our holdings in the Eberly Family Special Collections Library at Penn State University Libraries, strengthening our reputation for fostering research at all levels.”
