Brill Launches Enhanced Book Archive
Information Community News
Brill, the international scholarly publisher, recently announced the launch of the Brill Book Archive which includes in digital form titles published since the company's foundation in 1683. The archive offers researchers the opportunity to explore three centuries of academic excellence in the humanities, social sciences, international law and biology. It allows libraries to continue to build a permanent record of academic literature that is accessible and sustainable for generations.
With support from the Dutch National Library, Leiden University Library, and the Peace Palace Library in sourcing some of the 6,000 titles in a dozen subject collections, the company plans to make the remaining 14,000 titles available in 2023. All will have been carefully digitized and optimized to deliver high-quality, full-text searchable e-books in PDF format. All books are available DRM-free and are offered as one collection, as subject collection(s), from Brill's Evidence Based Acquisition (EBA) and E-Book Select programs, as well as through various e-book vendors. Out of print titles will now be available again.
With offices in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, the USA and Asia, Brill today publishes more than 360 journals and 2,000 new books and reference works each year as well as a large number of databases and primary source research collections. Commitment to Open Access and the latest publishing technologies are at the core of Brill’s mission to make academic research available for the scholarly community worldwide.
The response from one publishing consultant on Twitter noted:
When I say sustainable business models allow investment in the future, this is the kind of stuff I mean. Well done @BrillPublishing and congratulations @JasminLange https://t.co/Nq7rClPxzC
