Melissa Mallon, who has served as director of the Peabody Library and director of teaching and learning for the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries for over six years, has been appointed to a new role as associate university librarian for teaching and learning.
As AUL for Teaching and Learning, Melissa will provide vision, oversight and staff management of Vanderbilt’s libraries’ teaching and learning activities. Melissa will work with a variety of staff and faculty across the campus including library leadership and subject specialists to identify and implement strategies for the development of information and data literacy instruction, fostering deeper student engagement with the libraries, and training and mentoring library staff.
Melissa is active in academic library and higher education organizations, currently serving as vice chair of the Association of College & Research Libraries’ Student Learning & Information Literacy Committee. She regularly publishes and presents on topics related to information and digital literacies; her recent books include Partners in Teaching & Learning: Coordinating a Successful Academic Library Instruction Program and The Pivotal Role of the Academic Librarians in Digital Learning.
