NISO Webinar, No More Big Deal, Has Been Rescheduled for July 6: No Big Deal: Picking and Choosing Titles for Use

NISO Webinar, No More Big Deal, Has Been Rescheduled for July 6

June 2020

UPDATE: Re-Scheduled Date is Monday, July 6, at 1pm.

Dear Webinar Registrants and NISO members:

As you may know, to show solidarity with current protests, on Wednesday, June 10, academics are being asked to pause their teaching, research, and service activities as part of the #shutdownacademia and  #shutdownSTEM movement.

As noted in our recent Statement on the Protests in America and Social Justice, expanding diversity and inclusion within NISO is a key priority.  As part of our commitment to this goal, we are writing to let you know that tomorrow’s webinar, No More Big Deal? Picking and Choosing Titles for Use, is being postponed to allow our speakers and our community to participate in this day of protest.

We are working with our speakers to reschedule this webinar, and will advise you of the new date as soon as possible. As always, we will supply all registrants with an archived recording of the event, so that no one will miss the opportunity to hear from our three outstanding speakers:

  • Keith Webster, Dean of University Libraries, Carnegie Mellon University

  • Evviva Weinraub Lajoie, Vice Provost for University Libraries, State University of New York at Buffalo

  • Curtis Brundy, Associate University Librarian, Scholarly Communications and Collections, Iowa State University

We apologize for any inconvenience this causes but, as a community-led organization, we feel it is important to both express our support for the peaceful expression of protests against specific acts of violence or the general conditions that lead to those acts, and to support recognize our community’s participation in them.

Please do not hesitate to contact us at nisohq@niso.org if you have any questions or concerns about NISO’s position on the protests, or about the webinar itself.

Sincerely,

Todd A. Carpenter
Executive Director
