New Version of Thema Released (EDItEUR)
"The latest update of Thema was ratified by the Thema International Steering Committee during its online meeting in March, and published as version 1.4 in early April. Updated versions of the main English language documents are now available on the EDItEUR website. The online browser has also been fully updated. All the new categories have been integrated into the spreadsheets and data files available in various languages, though new categories have not yet been translated from English. This updated version remains fully backward compatible with previous versions of Thema. There are 143 new core subject categories that have been added to Thema v1.4, taking the total number of core subject categories to 3114. In addition, there are more than 600 modifications to the detailed wording of existing core categories – a few are minor revisions of headings but most affect the notes, and all are intended to add clarity of meaning or usage to these categories. […] There are 549 new qualifiers, the vast majority of which are national extensions reflecting growing use of Thema in different parts of the world. […] The majority of work for this update has been on clarification and adding notes. The notes are an essential part of Thema, to give guidance on use of particular categories and to give greater clarity to the meaning of the headings."
