Accessibility in a Nutshell: What the Information Community Needs to Know
Accessibility in a Nutshell: What the Information Community Needs to Know
May 2020
Over the past five years, the information community has seen revolutionary change in digital publishing and reading in the mainstream, which finally integrates requirements of persons with disabilities of all kinds. This presentation was provided by George Kerscher, Secretary General of the DAISY Consortium, as the opening keynote for the NISO Virtual Conference, Making Content Accessible, held on May 13. The talk covers specific print-disability characteristics that impact reading, and looks at the important standards, software, metadata, and Inclusive Publishing initiatives that every librarian, publisher, educator, or reading system developer should know. In 30 minutes, you will get the Inclusive Publishing big picture, and hopefully get ideas on directions your organization should be considering.
Slide decks used by other speakers during the virtual event are embedded on the specific NISO event page.
George Kerscher is Chief Innovations Officer of the DAISY Consortium, an international organization dedicated to facilitating access to information for persons with disabilities.
