Scholastica, a peer review and publishing software and service provider for academic journals, today announces the launch of its second “State of Journal Production and Access” survey of independent scholarly society and university publishers. The survey is accepting responses now through August 25, 2022.
The survey results will be used to develop an open report on the aspects of journal production and access that independent scholarly society and university publishers are prioritizing now and in the future, building off the first “State of Journal Production and Access” survey run in 2020.
The “State of Journal Production and Access” survey explores core aspects of journal production and access, including:
- Article production processes and formats
- Metadata tagging standards and priorities
- OA journal development approaches and funding models
At a time when production standards and open access initiatives are increasingly intersecting, such as in the Plan S guidelines, Scholastica believes exploring these aspects of publishing together will provide generative insights into how publishers are weighing priorities in these discrete but related areas. This is a global survey, and feedback is welcome from publishing programs of all sizes and
across disciplines.
Anyone who works with a scholarly society, university press, university library, or research institution that independently publishes one or more journals, is invited to take the survey. Information submitted for the survey will be published in an aggregated and anonymized form, and no personally identifying fields are required.
